Stretch Summer Project brings the Buena Vista Social Club to Salvador

The Cuban group Buena Vista Social Club is one of the attractions this year, in the third edition of the Stretch Summer Project. The initiative of Bahia’s Secretariat of Tourism and Bahiatursa aims at prolonging the permanence of visitors and attracting tourists after carnival. The project mixes an extensive cultural program with music, exhibitions and gastronomy.

The Stretch Summer will be open this Saturday (27/02), with several attractions in the 24h Beach Project, at Porto da Barra, in Salvador.

This year, the initiative also contemplates the cities of Ilhéus, Itacaré, Maraú, Mangue Seco, Porto Seguro, all of them in the littoral, besides Lençóis, in Chapada Diamantina.

Buena Vista – The presentation is on March 13th, in the evening, and the stage is Porto da Barra Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Salvador. The Cuban Band’s show is open to the public.

During the news conference, this Wednesday morning (24/02), Bahia’s Secretary of Tourism, Domingos Leonelli, said that the Stretch Summer Project was created in 2008 to face the effects of seasonality and retard the low season. “That’s why we had this idea and created this new product, which has quality attractions for tourists and local people, who can enjoy a differentiated kind of leisure”, explains Mr. Leonelli.

Program – The president of Bahiatursa, Emília Silva, explained that the Stretch Summer 2010 will present new things. “This year we’re going to valorize the artists and cultural manifestations of our land. Besides, we will also have a program in Pelourinho, with nights dedicated to samba and forró, as well as events at Ponta de Humaitá and various attractions in the inland’s touristic cities.”
